Shri Puranchandra Gupta Smarak Trust was established in the year 1987 to perpetuate the
sacred memory of late Shri Puran Chandra Gupta, the founder Managing Editor of Dainik Jagran
being the largest read newspaper of the country across all languages as an educational society
for the purpose of developing and catering the need of educational, spiritual, cultural, medical
and other philanthropic purposes. One of the main objectives for establishment of the society
was to serve the society by establishing educational institutions to give benefit to the persons
irrespective of cost, creed, race or religion and without having any profit motive.
During the last 20 years, various eminent personalities have participated as Chief Guest on
the various functions/programmes organized by the constituent schools and institutes such as
Late Rajiv Gandhi, Ex- Prime Minister of India, the Trust is fortunate to welcome such stalwarts
as Shri Vidya Charan Shukla, Shri Motilal Vohra, Shri Madhav Rao Scindia, Shri Murli Manohar
Joshi, Shri Romesh Bhandari, Shri Chandra Shekhar, Shri Yashwant Sinha, Shri Vishnu Kant
Shastri, Shri Nitish Kumar, Shri Arun Jaitley, Shri Shriprakash Jaiswal, Shri Shivraj Patil, Shri
Praful Patel, Smt. Sheela Dixit, Shri Jaspal Rana , Smt. Sonal Mansingh, Mrs Pratibha Patil and
Shri Rahul Gandhi.
It is the vision of the Trust that it should increase its wings to provide more educational
institutions all over the country as a centre of excellence to enlighten and to serve the public in
general and also to take various initiatives in the masses to improve their living standard and
to reduce inequalities pertaining to health and poverty. The Trust has been taking pioneer
efforts at the time of natural and national calamities such as floods and earthquakes or in
other wide-spread natural calamities. In these efforts, the Trust has accumulated large amount
of donations for such causes from the public apart from its own contribution and has donated
to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund or to the respective Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The Trust
has also took initiatives to support the Kargil War widows and contributed to construct a hostel
for Kargil War’s widows, sons and daughters at the Command Area, Lucknow. In this way, we
are striving to fulfill our social commitment for which Jagran has been founded by its founder
Late Shri Puran Chandra Gupta.
